Mice can be considered nice furry little pets for children when safely closeted in a secure cage with a wheel. Find one starring at you on the way to the refrigerator is another thing entirely. Your blood runs cold and you rush to fine the Mouse Traps.

You search franticaly through the garage looking for them but as always they’re nowhere to be seen.

A new batch is required but what sort of mouse trap are you going to use? A standard snap trap is a good bet but then you have the dead mouse starring at you when you find it’s body.

The good news is there are many different types of mouse trap available these days. From the humane mouse traps which capture your mouse for later release to electric traps that can kill 10 mice at a time.

You then have the mouse poisons and glue traps not as humane but they’ll do the job and if a deterrent is what you’re after the sonic devices will prevent the little critters from infesting your house in the first place.

There seems to be a lot of products on the market today that are obsessed with raising a woman’s butt! And the latest one is no different Leandro Carvalho’s Brazil Butt Lift claims to be able to do just that lift a ladies butt.

Apparently this Brazilian Butt Master has developed a programme you can do at home that will help you get that firm and lifted butt you’ve always desired.

According to the sales literature this programme will help you to reduce the size of your hips and thighs, melt (is this possible?) The fat off your thighs (a good trick if you can do it). It will also shape your butt by strengthening your gluteal muscles so you can get a highly desirable round looking Butt. And if that wasn’t enough this programme will also lift your butt so that you look fantastic no matter what angle people view you.

This programme is based around Brazilian dance movements that combines cardio and lower body sculpting to help firm up your sagging booty.

The system comes with five workouts on three DVDs. Labelled the basics, Bum Bum and Bum Bum Rapido. I kid you not I couldn’t have made these names if I tried.

As well as these DVDs you’ll also get the beauty makeover guide to help you determine your butt type, a secret weapon called the booty resistance band, some training cards and an easy to follow meal planner.

Sometimes I think the marketeers have gone completely mad. I’ve no doubt this programme if followed would probably assist in weight loss and will also help strengthen and tone you. But the message seems to have been dumbed down for consumption predominantly in the American market. It’s a pity because I believe with the right tone and message this system could probably help a lot of people reach their health and fitness goals.

I for one though can’t seem to take it seriously but (pun intended) if you’d like to take a look for yourself click on the link below.

People don’t take their dogs barking seriously enough. This issue came home to me when we received a letter from council informing us that somebody had complained about our dogs barking. The letter explained that the matter was under review and if it was upheld measures would be taken.

Now this came as a complete surprise to us because in our opinion are dogs do not bark excessively. Yes they do bark but is always a reason for it somebody coming down the drive or somebody is passing nearby. Now the person who complained obviously thought that this was excessive barking.

We were forced to keep a diary and in the diary we had to put a date and time and a note explaining why are dogs were barking. I can tell you this was a pain in the butt and very stressful knowing that are dogs were on trial.

It was then that we started looking at devices that could help us prevent a dogs barking. The best and most humane of these is a device that emits an inaudible sound the only your dog can hear every time it picks up a dog barking nearby.

This sound irritates the dog and eventually the dog makes the connection between the sound of his barking and the irritating noise. Overtime the barking is reduced or even completely eliminated. Until recently these devices have cost hundreds of dollars but now there is a cheaper alternative that works just as well.

It’s called BarkOff and it’s a small device that is easily portable that does the same job as its more expensive counterparts.

Remember one person’s territorial barking is another person’s nuisance party and these days we all need to be careful and keep a pet safe.

I was talking to my mother the other day about the Perfect Fit Button and how I thought it was such a simple but incredibly useful piece of equipment. I thought her head was going to explode with indignation.

She asked me why you couldn’t just remove the button and sew it back on in the new place? After all it only takes a couple of minutes. I think the reason is that many of us have lost the basic skills like sewing that used to be passed down from generation to generation.

I know my mother made a valiant attempt to teach my own daughter how to do basic sewing such as turning up the hem and sewing on a button. I have to say even I could do simple sewing tasks and I had to admit it’s a very useful skill to have.

I think in this hustle bustle world we now live in where both parents work full-time and look after their children time is short. So we look around for anything that can make our lives just that little bit easier and gadgets like the perfect fit button help us save time.

Yes I think it’s a shame that we are becoming more dependent on time-saving pieces of equipment but I believe as time goes by and we have less and less free time gadgets like these are going to be more and more useful. Well, at least the ones that work as advertised will be because as we know not all of them actually work

I must admit I can’t decide whether dogs really require a DogPedic Mattress. Conventional wisdom would say that dogs sleep on the floor and that should be all the comfort they need. I sort of agree that if your dog is young and in good condition it probably is all they require.

The attached photographs show our two dogs. You’ll notice Rottweiler is lying by the door on a green mat. That’s the Vet Bed we have it in our hallway and I had to admit it’s there mostly to absorb any moisture on the dogs paws as they come into the house. We live in the United Kingdom so rain is very common and therefore dogs trailing mud into the house is also common.

But it’s interesting to notice that the dog will still prefer to lie on a bed than on the floor. The other photograph shows our Bernese mountain dog trying to push me out of my favourite armchair. I’m sure given a choice he prefer to lie on my chair than on the floor.

He’s over eight years old now which in Bernese terms makes him positively geriatric. He’s starting to develop osteoarthritis in his back end and will now seek out the most comfortable place to sleep. When he was younger he would sneer at an armchair or even the carpet. He’d be outside on the cold concrete sprawled out perfectly comfortable.

These days though he likes his home comforts more and maybe a more comfy sleeping place might be in order and more to his liking.

Considering this type of mattress is fairly inexpensive I may consider buying him one. The problem is our young Rottweiler would suddenly take a keen interest in it I’m sure and it’s unlikely we could get away with buying just one.

Sometimes we are in danger of treating dogs better and we treat ourselves but sometimes I feel it is justified after all they’ve given us good and loyal service and companionship and making them comfortable in their old age is probably the right thing to do.

This is a check-list that I use before making any purchase on the Internet. It is not intended as advice it’s just the procedure I use to ensure I stand the smallest chance of being ripped off.

Is the purchase over $20 including shipping and handling. If it’s over $20 I will not buy it on the day I see it I will usually leave it until the next day and maybe do a little bit of research. Then if I still think it’s a good idea I’ll buy it.

I always look for contact customer support telephone numbers on the site. I then ring the number before I buy to make sure a real person answers the phone. That way I can be sure if I need to return the goods I can talk directly to somebody at the company.

Before entering my credit card details into any form on the website I’ll check to make sure they using a secure site. You can usually tell by the little padlock that will appear in your web browser.

I always use a credit card. My favourite type is one of the prepaid credit cards that way I know the maximum amount any one can withdraw.

I always check very very carefully the sign up page and subsequent pages for any hidden up-sells like recurring subscriptions or any other items that I don’t want.

Make a note of the credit card you used, the date and the amount requested.

As soon as possible when your credit card statement arrives verify you were charged the correct amount of money and ensure there are no other transactions you don’t recognize.

If the item is over $20 and the offer states that you can try the goods for 30 days and then return them if I don’t want them check the returns policy. You will often find it’ll cost you over $30 to ship the goods back. That’s assuming after contacting them you can actually cancel your order. Trust me trying to get the returns number out of some of these companies is like trying to get water out of a stone.

Most of the companies that sell products and services on-line are ethical and want to ensure their customers are happy. But it always pays to be prepared remember proper planning prevents poor performance.

I don’t have a problem with buying goods on the Internet. After all usually you can get a much better deal than if you purchase the same item in a shop. It’s rare that I can’t find a better price on household goods through Amazon for example. The time you need to be careful is when you purchase an item that you’ve seen advertised on one of the infomercial channels.

Mostly these offers are genuine and although the quality of the items can sometimes be poor at least you only get what you asked for. Sometimes though and usually it’s for the most desirable items a problem can occur. Often the product you want to purchase is a “Loss Leader” and the price is low because they intend to try and sell you something else at the point of sale after you’ve put in your credit card details. This is called an up-sell.

Mostly this is fairly harmless and the only thing you need to do is be very careful when checking out. Make sure any check-boxes (which may be pre-populated as the default option) are unchecked otherwise it will add another items to your shopping cart. The worst type is a recurring subscription option. Usually it will go something like this add a free 30 day supply of vitamins (for example) but you needn’t worry because if you cancel within 30 days you won’t be billed again and you get a free 30 day supply of whatever.

As I’ve stated before people like free stuff so they subscribe meaning to cancel before the 30 days has elapsed. But if you’re anything like me well before the 30 days at I’ve forgotten all about it. The next thing I know I have a $20 charge on my credit card and I slap myself on the head because I know I’ve forgotten to cancel the damn thing.

That’s usually when your problems begin. You’ve absolutely no chance of getting a refund for the 30 days you’ve just had trust me I’ve tried. Your real problem comes in cancelling the recurring subscription. The operator often tells you they can’t find your details, the supervisors on a tea break and any one of a myriad of excuses why they can’t cancel a subscription right now. If you’re very persistent and it usually takes several calls you can eventually cancel.

This new method of selling I believe is unethical. Or at least making it difficult to cancel is unethical. The solution is simple. Just be careful you haven’t inadvertently opted in to one of these offers when going through the checkout. To make matters worse although a lot of us would rather purchase at a store where we can easily turn the goods if they’re not fit for the purpose many of these offers are available via phone or the Internet only.

As always it’s buyer beware, so be aware when you’re filling in on-line forms that require credit card details. It’s always best to be sure rather than sorry.

I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression beware of Greeks bearing gifts. Well the same warning should be given to the infomercials you see on the television. How often have you seen that by one get one free offers. Quite often I would imagine. Human nature is strange when we see the word free we seem to lose all our common sense.

Just because we are getting two of something doesn’t mean the product has suddenly become better value than it was before. After all they probably just doubled the price they were going to ask for a single item and then offered you one for free!

I believe getting something for nothing or just believing you’re going to get something for nothing is hard-wired into us psychologically. We just can’t resist getting a bargain, we just have to have it.

So when evaluating these types of products and product types always do it in the cold light of day never pick up the phone the same day you see any advertisement. This advice would apply not only to television commercials but also anything you wish to buy.

My rule to prevent buyers remorse is simple if an item costs less than $20 including shipping I’ll ignore but it. I can easily afford to waste $20 as long as I don’t do it too often so even if the product turns out to be complete rubbish least I’ll have some amusement from trying to get it to work. But, anything over $20 and I’ll research the product carefully and then only purchase it when I’m not in a buying frenzy that’s been whipped up by some extremely skilful salesmen on the TV.

It’s a funny thing but if we’re in the street and someone offers us a bargain 99 times out of a hundred we’ll walk on knowing it’s probably some type of scam. But put the same pitch on the television and common-sense seems to go out at the side door. We just know we have to have it – that new shiny object of our desire.

Remember common-sense isn’t common so always give yourself a cooling off period before making any purchase particularly a major purchase or when losing the money would really hurt you.

We all like new things particularly toys and gadgets that allegedly will make our lives easier. The danger comes from slick advertising campaigns. We’ve all seen them on television and the salesman are so effective and know which buttons to press.

They’ve had years to polish their sales patter and they know from experience just what they need to say to get you excited and ready to buy. How many times have you bought something on impulse from the television only to be disappointed when the products actually arrives? It looks nothing like what was show on the television and usually isn’t fit the purpose for which you bought it.

Now if the products costs a mere $10 plus shipping and handling them no real harm is done. The likelihood is because it’s so cheap it may still be good value. The problem comes when we start to purchase larger ticket items such as a new piece of exercise equipment which may cost over $300.

Now for most people $300 will make a dent in their monthly budget. It’s a lot of money to waste on something that doesn’t work as advertised.

My advice would be if an item costs less than $20 and you really have to have it then buy it $20 isn’t going to break the bank. However for the more expensive items make it a rule never to purchase on the day you saw the advertisement. Force yourself to wait at least 48 hours and then assess whether you can still justify the purchase.

If you can justify the purchase and the money isn’t going to take food off your table then go ahead and buy it otherwise keep your credit card in your wallet and thank your lucky stars you haven’t been conned again

if you’ve been watching the infomercial channels recently you can’t have missed the adverts for the Jupiter Jack. The Jupiter Jack claims to be a hands-free way of using your mobile phone whilst driving your car.

Now I haven’t got one as my in car entertainment system has parrot Bluetooth installed as standard. As a hands-free system it fantastic it has a microphone which is positioned just underneath the rear view mirror. When someone calls me I hear the ring coming through the speakers and with one finger I can easily answer the phone. The audio quality is great and it’s very easy to use.

Compared to that the Jupiter Jack isn’t going to be anywhere near as good. Firstly the mobile phone has to be mounted on the dashboard with the free mount supplied. The Jupiter Jack is then plugged in to the mobile phone and the car radio is tuned to a particular frequency.

I would find it fiddly and awkward to use but it does have a couple of very good advantages. Firstly it will fit any mobile phone and can therefore be placed in any car. Secondly it’s very inexpensive at only $20 it’s not going to break the bank.

Compared to other methods of using your mobile phone hands-free I think this one is worth a look after all if it doesn’t work quite as well as you thought you can either send it back or use the dashboard mount as a drinks holder!
