Choosing A Camping Generator

by Steve on September 11, 2010

Although it may seem strange to have a Camping Generator for household use they can come in handy as part of your emergency kit.

We all rely on a regular and clean electricity supply from our utility company so much so that we take it completely for granted until it isn’t there anymore. We’ve all experienced small blackouts before due to bad weather but the outages rarely last for more than a couple of hours.

Even then we;re like lost souls. We can’t cook, our heating is off, our freezers are slowly defrosting and we’re left in the dark.

Smart people plan for even longer outages particularly in places which experience hurricanes for example. For these people they could be out of power for weeks if not months.

A Camping Generator in the garage would help ensure you have power for all the essential items in your house and provide you with a source of light. Ideally your house would have backup batteries charged by the mains and an inverter to provide 120v AC for use in an emergency. The backup generator then only needs to charge the batteries.

However even without batteries a 2Kv portable generator is quite capable of running a fridge freezer, your TV, lighting and your heating system.

For under $500 as long as you have gasoline you’ll have power and lights. A small price to pay for the security that will give you.

Your problem will be fending off your neighbours wanting to store their items in your freezer before they defrost :)
